Help Wanted...

OK, so this will be quick since I don't have a bundle of things to say (out loud anyway).
Please note the announcements in the menu to the right, they'll keep you up to date.

I wanted to make the following plea for help: Who wants to make a "guest" post on the blog? Talk to me and I'll get you plugged in. You probably have far more interesting things to say than I do right now.

Lastly, did anyone else leave the City Museum with holes in their shirt and a strange suspicion that you might be carrying more bacteria out than you took in with you? Hmmmm?

Tales, Trivia-Bueno and Tidbits

Stories are pretty fun! This weekend I heard some great ones from a couple of the older members of our church. It is amazing to hear the things that have gone on in peoples lives and the way the Lord has shown His faithfulness to them. This weekend, while visiting with our deacons, I heard a story about a man's relative who tyrannized Kaskaskia, IL with two stolen canons and a stolen fort. I heard another about how he used to live behind the choir loft at our church (that's right, OUR church). I heard another about how a woman and her husband tried to challenge the racism of her small community way back in the 40's. Pretty great stuff...I can't wait until next month's youth/deacon visitation (Feb 17th).

So onto some tidbits. There are still spots left to sign up for the Deacon Trivia night. The Deacons have chosen a south-of-the-border-theme for this year so put on your thinking-sombrero and help us totally dominate the middle of the pack!

Speaking of sombreros, feel free to submit your best caption to go with the picture. Here's mine: Following high school, Stu rejects a life of studying World War II history, grows a mustache and tours the American southwest playing covers of Radiohead set to mariachi with the "Singin' Gatos".

Worst Ever II - The Weekend Vacation

Because I am reasonably sure it will end up as a sermon illustration at some point, I will spare you the details. Let me just say that when you do the math, 1 sick kid + several sleepless nights + an ice storm + a 5 hour drive from a location only 2.5 hours away = rough weekend. Okay, we admit that it could have been worse. That we even got to try and have a weekend getaway shows just how good we have it, I know, I know. It was just less than pleasant. Strangely enough, Danielle is used to not so great vacations. Weird stuff just follows me on trips like that...maybe it is some kind of family curse. My mom grew up in Central America and was not liked by the village witch-doctor...I'm going to assume there is a different explanation...Danielle thinks it might just be me. It's hard to argue. I'm sure Eva's blog will have some comments (there is also a disturbing video of one of Eva's recent mining expeditions).

How about you all? Any tales of less than desirable family getaways?

By the way, before I call it a post, I want to be sure and remind you of our monthly visitation with the deacons. Actually it will be with one deacon each month as we share some breakfast then visit some of our church-family shut-ins. This is a great way to serve alongside our church leaders, get to know some of our church family that we don't get to see often and take part in Jesus' ministry to His people. I hope you can come. We'll leave the church at 9 for breakfast so bring some moolaa (that is to say money and not an actual mullah).

Howdy!

Welcome back ya'all. This Wednesday we get back into the saddle for our regular youth group stuff. Hope you can come. In case the times seeped out of your noggin' over the break, we meet from 6-8 PM for games, prayer, fellowship and a devotional.

While I'm here, how 'bout a couple of announcements? On January the 26th (it's a Friday), I've reserved the moldsmobile for an evening at the City Museum. We'll leave the church at 4:30, head downtown and eat dinner there. Admission to the museum is $8. Be sure and RSVP to me by the 21st so I can be sure and work out the transportation.

Also, while you're still reading, do you want to see the Blues keep up their winning ways. Contact me if you are interested in taking in a game on February 16th. Ticket prices vary but you should plan on $25+. RSVP by January 31st if you want to go so we can get tickets at the same time (and in the same location).

And by the way, give me a yeeehaa if you think this ought to be Pastor Medlock's new preaching attire?

Fun with web cams

All this talk about Colorado and the mountains made me think about some of my favorite places on the web. I'm a big fan of web cams from places I like. For example, here is the address to some web cams from Estes Park.

Here's how it looks at night.

Simply beeeeaaaautiful. My favorite mountain web cam is from outside Jackson Hole WY. Danielle won't let me look at it much because I tend to glaze over in a trance-like stare wandering the snowy trails in my mind...kind of strange...

So, what are ya'alls favorite web sites (doesn't have to be a cam)?

Purple mountains majesty...

Actually the mountain is mostly green but you know the song. So, RYM is coming up for the senior high, OK it isn't until June but pre-registration is coming up quickly. I think asking someone to pre-register is kind of like asking someone to consider, one day perhaps, getting engaged. No matter. The important bit is that Monday morning I have to tell RYM how many people I think might be coming with us to Colorado for RYM. Soooooo, if you have any inclination at all to join us for a week of recreation, learnin' and watching me drool through my week-long-grin because of the scenery...let me know by Sunday evening. I'll be making my best guess and your help would be quite helpful. You don't have to commit with absolute certainty (proper confidence will do), I'm just interested in your intentions. Give me a call, talk to me at church (thanks to those who already have, or email me...rocky mountain high-iiiiiiiii Colorado, rocky mountain high-iiiiiiiii Colorado (thanks John Denver!)
